ORIGIN OF THE DANDIYA EVENT

Dandiya Raas or Dandiya Raas is a traditional folk dance of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. The exact origin of the dance format is unclear. Though, it is believed that it is derived from of Lord Krishna Leela with Goddess Radha and her friends (Lord Krisna’s playful act) during Holi. Dandiya dance involves a few simple moves. The participants are given two sticks in both their hands and they are told to strike them together on the beats of the musical instruments.  The dance is performed in many groups.  Groups are formed in many sub-groups.
