Description

Kidpreneurs camps are a way to encourage school students to participate in entrepreneurial activities. We believe that Entrepreneurship should be seen as an important general skill for all, which needs to be inculcated from the school time.

There is enough evidence and research, highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship education in human development.

“The important role of education in promoting more entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviors is now widely recognized. However, the benefits of entrepreneurship education are not limited to start-ups, innovative ventures and new jobs. Entrepreneurship refers to an individual’s ability to turn ideas into action and is therefore a key competence for all, helping young people to be more creative and self-confident in whatever they undertake.”  -EU Expert Group Report, 2008, p7

These Entrepreneurial Skills and Competencies have become more critical for success, than ever before. Education system prepares youngsters for future careers, but the corporate landscape is changing rapidly. Many job titles today, for example Mobile App Developer, Data Scientist, Solar Energy Engineer, Social Media Manager etc, didn’t even exist a decade ago.

“Some of the most powerful companies on today’s Fortune 500 list—businesses like Intel, Microsoft, Apple, Dell, and Google—grew from zero to great upon entirely new technologies, bumping venerable old companies off the list. There are dozens of such companies on this year's list did not even exist in 1955 (when the first list was prepared).” – Jim Collins, author of ‘Good to Great’, ‘Built to Last’ etc

It’s clear that we need a solution that ‘supplements’ the formal education system, to develop skills in students for participation in the ‘Global Knowledge Economy’. We need to create the change leaders of tomorrow, who are prepared for uncertainties, who can take strong decisions and who can think of solutions.

“There is no doubt that we are living in the ‘knowledge era’ of human history. Knowledge societies and knowledge economies are the main characteristics of the knowledge era, but more important is the ‘knowledge mindset’ of individuals. The knowledge mindset helps individuals to navigate today’s uncertainties and tomorrow’s unknown developments, not only in labour markets but in all aspects of life. Twenty-first-century citizens, regardless of their occupation, must be well equipped to navigate oceans of fast changes and developments. It is the responsibility of education to equip individuals to meet current and future challenges and expectations. This is a huge responsibility, but one that must be fulfilled. Education is the main vehicle used by societies to develop their new generations, and education reforms should be oriented to providing students with a knowledge mindset. Two main forms of education have a particular role to play in this context: technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and entrepreneurship education (EPE).” - Dr. Badawi, Indiana University, Consultant at United Nations

The current education system does not help to foster ‘teamwork’ nor does it give much importance to Creativity among school students. Also, the ‘One size fits all’ approach to education has major limitations, as each child is so different. Kidpreneurs is a unique program that addresses these gaps through entrepreneurial engagements. As a part of these camps, children realize their own strengths, take decisions without guidelines and learn how to influence people around them. They become better prepared to choose their career paths. The experience motivates disengaged students by giving them an opportunity to experience success through applied learning in practical settings, and the opportunity to come in contact with mentors and role models. We also ignite the entrepreneurial fire that will enable some youngsters to plan, start and run their own business or social enterprises in future.

The following key competencies that are developed through Kidpreneur camps –

  1. Critical Thinking

  2. Communication

  3. Creativity

  4. Collaboration
